Description
Art Basel Paris 2025

Louisa Gagliardi prints her images on PVC,

a material whose subtle sheen lends the

vibrant quality of a digital screen – the very

tool Gagliardi uses to conjure her paintings.

Once stretched on a frame, she intervenes on

the surface with gels, nail polish, glitter, and

latex, all kinds of mediums that give the works

dimension through iridescence. The prints then,

both in their physicality and subject matter,

reveal an unexpected depth, creating a rare

kind of magnetism, rooted both in the luminous

surfaces and a suspended status as both

digital and physical objects. While Gagliardi’s

compositions verge on the realistic, they

ultimately reimagine social scenes, revealing

a sense of alienation and incommunicability.

In this new series of paintings, Louisa Gagliardi

uses cargo truck interiors as canvases within

her compositions. Continuing her exploration of

liminal spaces, the trucks seem like the perfect

carriers. In each of these works, the interior

becomes a window onto a new scene. Playing

with the notion of chiaroscuro, Gagliardi

introduces a distinct source of light–a desk

lamp, a chandelier and a sunset–contrasting

with the dark and utilitarian interior of the truck.
