For CONDO São Paulo 2020 Madragoa presents Phantom Recorder, an installation by Adrián Balseca hosted by Central Galeria.

Phantom Recorder is a collaborative project with Kara Solar, an initiative of the Latin American Association for Alternative Development in alliance with the Achuar Nationality of Ecuador. The work revolves around a device designed to collect the sounds produced by different living organisms on the banks of the Bobonaza River, in the provice of Pastaza.
Informed by post-colonialism, Balseca’s work is a symbolic inversion of the celebrated voyage in Werner Herzog’s lm Fitzcarraldo (1982), where — in the depths of the Amazon jungle — the protagonist attempts to enchant the natives by playing the arias from the opera Caruso on his gramophone.

Phantom Recorder é um projeto em colaboração com Kara Solar, uma iniciativa da Latin American Association for Alternative Development em articulação com a Achuar Nationality of Ecuador. O trabalho desenvolve-se em torno de um equipamento desenhado para recolher os sons produzidos pelos diferentes organismos vivos nas margens do rio Bobonaza, na província de Pastaza, e é simbolicamente uma inversão da famosa viagem representada no filme de Werner Herzog “Fitzcarraldo” de 1982, onde, nos confins da selva amazónica o protagonista tenta encantar os nativos ao tocar no seu gramofone as árias da ópera Caruso.
